Using the unique benefits of a Christian camp environment, we help people grow spiritually, educationally, socially, and physically—all for God's glory.
Meet the Staff
Ben Sparks—Camp Director
Ben Sparks grew up visiting Camp Sunrise, and was challenged to get involved in the ministry during his college years at Bob Jones University. While at college, Ben served at both Camp Sunrise and The Wilds Christian Camp in a variety of roles. After graduating in 2016, Ben became the Assistant Director at Camp Sunrise. He now serves as Camp Director, helping the camp team to help people grow for God's glory.
Daniel Knox—Program Director
Daniel Knox has served at Camp Sunrise since 2015, becoming the program director in 2016. Daniel graduated from Bob Jones University with a BA in Health, Fitness, and Recreation and a passion to serve the Lord by ministering to children and teens. During the school year, Daniel currently directs the sports program at Berean Baptist Academy. In the summers, Daniel leads our summer camps, where every camper can grow in a fun, safe environment.
Our counselors are hand-picked young Christian men and women with a passion for working with youth at Camp Sunrise. Our counselors have passed extensive background checks and are well-trained. It's our prayer, and our plan, that every camper has a counselor they can relate to, who cares about them personally, and who models godly Christian living.
Our Core Values
Live the Bible
We base all that we do on the foundation of God's true Word. We study it, believe it, and apply it to every aspect of life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:21b-25)
We serve the ultimate Servant by lovingly helping staff and guests in any way we can. (Philippians 2:3-8)
We treat staff and guests like family, creating a close-knit community where Christ-centered relationships are made and grown. (1 John 1:3-7; Hebrews 10:24-25)
Walk by Faith
We rely on God to direct our steps today and in the future. We trust Him to provide all that we need to do His will. (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Make it Better
We steward our God-given resources to continually improve on everything we do. (Colossians 3:23)
Let God Work
We share the truth in a distraction-free environment conducive to spiritual growth. We ask God to produce lasting spiritual change in people's lives. (1 Corinthians 3:6-9)
What We Believe
We believe that the Bible—both the Old and New Testaments—is God's Word, has no errors in the original writings, and was inspired by God from cover to cover. We believe that the Bible is the ultimate and final authority in faith and life.
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that the first man and woman were created sinless, in the image of God. But, because of the Fall, while all humans are still made in the image of God, they are also born with a sinful nature and are sinners in their thoughts, words, and actions. We believe that, because of sin, every person deserves not only physical death but also spiritual death (eternal separation from God).
We believe that Jesus, God's Son, was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We believe that He is truly God and truly human.
We believe that the Lord Jesus lived a perfect life on earth, died on a cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, and rose from death, all on our behalf.
We believe that all who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior are justified on the basis of his shed blood.
We believe in Jesus's ascension into Heaven and in his present life as High Priest and Advocate for all who believe in Him.
We believe in the personal, premillennial, and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We are fundamental: We believe in the basic truths which are clearly taught in the Bible and which have been held by godly Christians for hundreds of years.
We are non-denominational: We believe in the oneness of all true believers in Christ, and do not follow the special teachings or administrative authority of any particular denomination or group. We believe that God's Word is the final and only authority on all matters of the Christian faith.
